What we collect
- Your callsign (your username), email address, city, license class and any profile text you choose to add.
- What you post: forum posts, repeater reports, club and event submissions, net check-ins.
- Basic technical data needed to run the site securely, such as your IP address in server logs and login-attempt limits.
- Site activity: which pages signed-in members open, which actions they take (such as replying, voting or RSVPing) and when they were last active. Only site administrators can see this. It never includes what you type, and it is deleted after 30 days. We also count overall page views and daily visitors without cookies or stored IP addresses.
- Actions taken by site administrators and moderators are logged so they can be reviewed.
- Equipment inventory (optional): items you add under My equipment are private to your account. Other members and moderators cannot see them in the site and they are not shown on your profile. Like private messages, they are stored in the site's database, so server administrators could technically access them.
- If you choose to set a weather location, we store your ZIP code and the matching National Weather Service area codes so we can show you local alerts. Only you can see it. The radar map on the Weather page loads map images from the Iowa Environmental Mesonet (Iowa State University), the National Weather Service and OpenStreetMap, so those services can see your IP address and the area of the map you are viewing; we do not send them your account details. If you choose "Use my current location," your browser shares your position only at that moment and we keep just the nearest ZIP code, not your exact coordinates. ZIP code locations come from the GeoNames postal code database (CC BY 4.0). You can remove it any time on the Weather location page.
- Marketplace listings you post (title, description, photos, price, the city you enter and your callsign) are visible to signed-in members. Messages about a listing are ordinary private messages.
FCC data
Callsign lookups use the FCC's public GMRS license records (name, city, state, status). That information is already public through the FCC. We copy it so members can look up licensees and so we can check callsigns at registration.
What we show
Your callsign and the profile details you add are visible to other members. Your email address is never shown publicly.
Cookies
We use only the cookies needed to keep you signed in and protect forms. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.
Messages
Private messages between members are visible in the site only to the sender and the recipient. They are not end-to-end encrypted, and site administrators with access to the server could technically read them. Please do not send passwords or financial details.
Sharing
We do not sell your information. We do not share it except where the law requires.
Your choices
You can edit your details under My account. To have your account removed, ask a site admin.
